This is your classic restaurant code — any place that serves food in a permanent building. Sit-down restaurants, warungs with concrete walls, fast food joints, food courts inside malls, even hotel restaurants. If people walk in, sit down, and eat food you cooked in a fixed building, this is the code.

Micro scale (smallest operations): Medium-Low risk. You get your NIB + Standard Certificate automatically — no waiting. You'll need a Hygiene Sanitation Label (HSP) and must submit periodic activity reports.
Small / Medium / Large scale: Medium-High risk. NIB + Standard Certificate issued within 14 working days. You'll need a Self-Assessment of Standard Readiness, a certified standard from an LSPr (certification body), and a Hygiene Sanitation Feasibility Certificate (SLHS).
Fully open — 100% foreign ownership allowed.
Big change in 2025. The old 56101 (restaurants) got merged with three other codes: 56103 (food stalls/tents), 56104 (self-service restaurants), and 56109 (other fixed-building food). So if you had a cafeteria-style or self-service setup under a separate code before, it's all 56101 now. One code to rule them all for fixed-building food service.
Bali Intelligence
This is the single most common business code for foreigners in Bali. Seminyak, Canggu, and Ubud are saturated — the competition is fierce and landlords know it. Sanur and Uluwatu still have room. Keep in mind: Bali's health department (Dinas Kesehatan) does actual inspections for your SLHS, and they check kitchen hygiene, water quality, and food storage. Budget 2-4 weeks for the inspection alone. Also, most Bali restaurants need a separate liquor license if they serve alcohol — 56101 alone doesn't cover that.
